ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
Junior Civitans are sensitive to environmental issues. Through the Environmental Awareness Campaign, clubs promote solutions to the issues the planet faces. Many clubs participate in projects to educate the public on deteriorating natural conditions. Projects vary widely, from recycling Christmas trees to adopting a highway, stream, or acre of rainforest.
Lake Howell High School (Orlando, Florida) helps their environment by participating in a Lake Clean Up project each year. Club members plant various kinds of vegetation along a local lake’s bank to help create a clean and natural filtration system. Other clubs help out their environment by cleaning up local parks and beaches and holding school-wide recycling drives.
Ideas include:
- Park clean ups
- Adopt a mile/street
- Butterfly/bee garden
- Recycling campaign
- Snow shoveling or Leaf raking
- Sponsor a school beautification program or “clean up” week.
Does your club have an Environmental Awareness project you think other Junior Civitan clubs would be able to carry out? Submit your club project for a chance to be featured on the Junior Civitan website.
